The 2FC5S water filter is Fibredyne-II 5-micron carbon block media that inhibits the growth of bacteria on the filter media, which can cause short life. In addition, the integrated beaded polyphosphate scale inhibitor helps prevent limescale build up.
Because this is a 5-micron carbon block filter, it will provide longer life than Everpure 1/2 micron precoat water filters. With 5-micron filters you are giving up NSF standard 53 for cyst reduction, in exchange for longer filter life.
Examples of cysts are Cryptosporidium and Giardia Lamblia. You will still get exceptional chlorine and particulate reduction, just not food safety.
If you have the room, consider an upgrade to the 4FC5S water filter for more than double the capacity. The 4FC5S is approx. twice the length.
